WHY DESIGN?

From a young age our father taught us to create. We made a cage for our rabbit or tools for our father to use in his wheelchair. This practical approach to solve problems even made me think we could repair the dead goldfish with a screwdriver. Unfortunately, there is a limit to what you can make. But still, I dream of finding solutions to problems we encounter.

MY INTEREST.

The design projects that interested me the most, see background, have a clever way to enhance or experience a product. This innovation can be found in people’s behaviour, the user environment or its production. Working in an energized team with the eagerness to learn, an open mind and persistence help me to be more innovative and reach this too. In the end, it feels really rewarding to help people live better lives or make companies more efficient.

Skills

Besides my project’s processes some skills are shortly mentioned to indicate a level or highlight a skill.

ENGINEERING

Fontys’ first year of mechanical engineering and industrial product design are nearly identical. Therefore we, as industrial designers, also have a reasonable technical background due to courses like dynamics, material science, manufacturing and engineering.

CAD

At the TU/e I’ve learned only the very basics of Solidworks by myself. Fortunately, in Venlo I got a more extensive basic level using more broad functions such as sheet metal, surfaces and technical drawings.

PITCHING

In conversations I sometimes find it hard to explain my thoughts to the point. But once prepared I can create a logic storyline, vividly share my message and convince my audience.

SKETCHING

Only since I started at Fontys, I have been really developing my sketching and rendering skills. At the moment I have the basic skills to communicate my ideas.

TEAMWORK

In projects, during several committees and in my part-time job I have shown to be an open enthusiastic team player. In my experience, motivation, expectation and leadership are important aspects to successful teams.

Experience

At a glance, my experience is shown in these bars. They show how I feel about the differences in my development. A lower value doesn’t mean I’m bad at it, but represents more potential growth.

This portfolio has been made to show my capacity as a design student. First, in Eindhoven, Industrial Design (TU/e) taught me a holistic multidisciplinary approach to concept development. However, it lacked traditional design know-how of product development and manufacturing which was found in Venlo (Fontys).

If this selection of my work has been an inspiration for you or grasped your interest, you can learn more about me. Send me an email or give me a call and I could visit your company for a meeting.
